Winter Warmth
Winter is a season that draws people closer, where the warmth of human connection shines even brighter. Let’s craft unforgettable memories through experiences that embrace the beauty of snow and the chill, transforming the cold into something truly heartwarming
◾️Japanese Igloo “Kamakura” Making Experience
Join us in a quiet mountain setting to build an igloo and enjoy a warm Japanese hot pot. Experience traditional winter culture at a coworking facility, where you can balance work and snow fort building. Locals from across Hokkaido will also be there, eager to create large snow huts, adding to the fun.
◾️Mochi-pounding Experience and Snowmobile Riding
Experience the traditional art of mochi pounding using a stone mortar and taste freshly made daifuku( is a Japanese rice dough sweet with a red bean filling), a world apart from store-bought mochi. Afterward, enjoy snowmobiling across snow-covered fields. No driver’s license needed—everyone can join the fun, whether riding or on a snow tube!

Since 2018, Yakumo Village has been welcoming international visitors and offering a variety of nature experiences throughout the seasons. We also regularly accept foreign volunteers and have created a new system that allows outsiders to get involved in the preparation of the traditional festival, fostering connections between local people and visitors.
Our goal is to create a daily life in Yakumo that embraces rich diversity, even in this rural town. We want to inspire people to feel the vastness and excitement of the world in our everyday lives, and to spark a sense of possibility and excitement about our future.
We’ve planned this project to create an environment where “outsiders” can appreciate the value of nature, delicious food, and the stillness that feels timeless, making them want to return again and again.
We hope that everyone who participates will share your thoughts and insights from your stay—what you felt, and what possibilities you see. There will also be a workshop on the final day.
But first, we want you to fully enjoy Yakumo! It may be a bit hard to reach Yakumo, but winter is the most wonderful time of the year here in Hokkaido, and we’re excited to share it with you. Amid the cold, snowy, and silent winter, we hope you’ll find warmth that can only be felt in this season.
We’re looking forward to meeting you.
Thank you.
